RE

Year 7 RE Curriculum:

RE works on a rotation in which all Year 7 students in addition to their 39 hours of EPC received 2 hours per week of Religious Education for 13 weeks. In this time, they will cover the following: Students will cover all 6 main world religions with a focus on the main religion of Great Britain. This curriculum will also cover humanist perspectives on issues to provide balance. Year 7 will focus a lot of content on Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. This allows them to have ‘in depth knowledge’ on the major world religions and allow for comparison. Students will then explore concepts below in their second year of study of RE and begin to draw on Sikhism, Hinduism and Judaism.

  • The Nature of God- Christianity exploring the ‘omni’ characteristics.

How do religions know right from wrong?

  • Christianity- The 10 commandments.
  • Christianity- Teachings in the Bible.
  • Judaism- The Mitzvot.
  • Judaism- The Torah and Tenakh.
  • Buddhism- The Eightfold path
  • Islam- The 5 pillars of Islam
  • Assessment question- How do religions know right from wrong?

What are places of worship?

  • Features of a Mosque.
  • Features of a Church.
  • Features of a synagogue.

How do religions show belief?

  • The Eucharist.
  • Christmas and Easter Celebrations.
  • Pilgrimages- Hajj
  • Assessment point- Showing belief in the 21st century.

What are key festivals?

  • Eid/Ramadan
  • Diwali
  • Wesak
  • Final assessment for RE.

Year 8 RE Curriculum:
