Ethics Philosophy and Citizenship ‘EPC’ lessons

We would like to encourage our parents/careers to discuss what their children have learnt in their EPC lessons this week, helping to expand their personal development.

At Don Valley Academy, our core personal development programme is delivered through Ethics Philosophy and Citizenship ‘EPC’ lessons. EPC places social and personal development at the heart of its design, with group discussion, self-expression and the promotion of tolerance & respect towards the opinions of others assessed in each unit of work. Providing opportunities for pupils to develop confidence, resilience and knowledge to stay mentally and physically healthy are also included and developed on a cross curricular level.

This week in EPC lessons…

  • In Year 7 students have studied the story of Boy 87, looking at the role that friendship plays in a turbulent time for young Shif.
  • In Year 8 students are following the story of Nicky Cruz by looking at the causes of crime, their opinions of the death penalty and the role of prison when people break the law.
  • In Year 9 groups have been focussing on happiness in which they have discussed the importance of happiness in different cultures and religions. Whilst linking to the British values.
  • In Year 10 students have been analysing how different countries are lead and can explain what democracy is and how it has influenced Doncaster and surrounding areas
  • In Year 11 students have started a new topic called financial literacy, this week we have been talking all things payslips and explaining what can be found on a payslip and calculating deductions.
