Careers : Successful and Influential Women Event
Our Year 10 girls had an amazing careers event with female entrepreneurs talking about their success in business and the community. Special thanks to Mrs Davies for organising this. The event was an opportunity for our Year 10 girls to spend time with former students of Don Valley as part of International Women’s Month. The aim of the session was for the girls to spend time with successful and influential women, in the hope our girls would be inspired by seeing what success looks like once they leave Don Valley.
All the girls were excited; they spent 15 minutes with each woman, learning what they do and how they got to be where they are today and where they want to go in the future. The women shared their experiences of Don Valley and how it prepared them for the world of work. They talked about how GCSEs might not be directly connected to their chosen professions but how they were the stepping stone to allowing them to access further opportunities.
It was an extremely informative afternoon and all our girls came away having learned something they did not know before. They were all excited by their experience and were very animated about how much they’d enjoyed spending time with these successful and dynamic women.
