The National Education Union (NEU) representing some teachers in schools have voted to take industrial action in the form of a strike on Wednesday 5th July 2023 and Friday 7th July 2023.

We respect the teachers’ right to take this action in the dispute they have with the Department of Education.  However, we recognise that this will be disruptive to students’ education and can create problems for parents and carers.  We will therefore try our best to minimise any disruption to the normal function of the academy.

The disruption created by these strike days, and the need to have regard to the health and safety of students has been assessed and as a result we have taken the decision to partially close the Academy.  We very much regret the disruption and inconvenience but the decision to partially close has been made after careful consideration and in the best interests of students.

Students in Year 10 are expected to attend as normalThe Academy will be closed to all students in Years 7, 8, and 9. The Academy will be open to all students on Thursday 6th July 2023.

Students who are not in the Academy on Wednesday 5th July 2023 and Friday 7th July 2023 are expected to complete the lessons available on Teams and complete the tasks on their Hegarty/Sparx home learning.

If your child is on Free School Meals, we can offer your child a school meal at lunchtime.  The canteen will be open between 12 noon and 1.00 p.m.  Students should report to main reception on arrival if they wish to have a meal.

We are working to adhere to government guidelines in offering maximum provision to students and we are therefore prioritising remaining open to students who are due to sit public examinations, vulnerable children and children of critical workers.  If you feel that your child falls into the category of vulnerable children or children of critical workers, please contact the Academy to discuss with your child’s Learning Manager.

Please note that school buses will run as normal and students coming into the Academy on strike days should arrive and leave the Academy via the main reception on Jossey Lane.

Yours sincerely

Mrs H Thornton

Principal
