Technology

Curriculum Intent Statement Technology

We believe that students deserve a Design & Technology curriculum which prepares them for the world they live in.

The Design and Technology department comprises the following subjects: Engineering/ Design Technology, Hospitality & Catering/Food Studies, and Textiles. In Design and Technology students combine practical and theoretical skills with creative thinking to design and make products, that meet human needs.

Students study an even mix of the theory that links to the practical skills they are learning within each unit. The Technology curriculum is structured in a combined helix and cyclical model that means the cycle can be repeated by revisiting topics at increasing levels of sophistication in order to produce what is known as a spiral curriculum. Our Design & Technology curriculum will give the students an opportunity:

  • To build up creativity.
  • To take risks and learn from mistakes.
  • To develop resilience.
  • To enjoy learning in a practical manner.
  • To support the development of good health and well-being of our students.
  • To prepare pupils for the next stage of their education by encouraging and inspiring students who wish to take on further study, from selecting this as an option at GCSE, A level, university and the world of work.
