Welcome to Don Valley Academy

Principal's Message

It has been a busy but exciting time here at Don Valley Academy during the first half term and there are many other things to look forward to before we break up for Christmas.

We have appointed, after a rigorous process our new student president who is Phoebe Langan and Vice Presidents Malgorzata Szakowska and Taylor Sheldon.  Congratulations to these students who have displayed outstanding characteristics during the selection process and I look forward to working very closely with them.

During the recent half term holiday, 12 students in Year 9 were successful in being accepted onto the Made in Sheffield Engineering course and spent a day during half term at Magna with senior business people from across several different industrial sectors. The students were able to run a Q&A session with these industry leaders and really get to know some of the most important parts of running a successful business. The students were also taken on an exclusive tour of Magna and were able to gain more developed insight into some of the manufacturing process that occurred at the site and how this industry had influenced the local area.

On Friday 10th November, 41 students celebrated their success in their first reporting cycle by having brunch with me in the library.  On Thursday 16th November, students with 100% attendance in the first half term will enjoy a Movie and Pizza evening.

I would like to congratulate Charlotte Carlile who will representing  Doncaster/Yorkshire by playing the flute at the Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday 13th Novemberand also to Hollie Pinder who has recently been successful reached the CP World Championships in Swimming and will compete in Barcelona next year.  I would also like to thank over 150 of our students who have represented the Academy in our recent and very successful Open Evening, as well as our recent Parents Evenings.

Year 11 students are working hard and have received some positive exam results, we will continue to support them throughout the course of this year.  Over 70 students came into the Academy during the half term holidays to work with the History and Geography departments.

The Academy continues to move forward at pace … we are look forward to exciting times ahead!
