Summer Production of Aladdin Blog

Each week we will keep you updated with the progress of our rehersals.

Learning 'One Jump Ahead' with Aladdin & pals! Fantastic commitment & making a great sound. I loved how students were really getting into character rather than just singing the lyrics. Arabian Nights, Friend like Me & One Jump Ahead are shaping up to be a show worth seeing! 11 March 2020

Fabulous rehearsal this week for Aladdin with KS4 Drama students ‘stepping up’ as Drama Prefects by leading the warm-up. The cast have been developing & refining characterisation skills for the opening. We are loving Jafar and Iago’s characters … what do you think? #BooHiss pic.twitter.com/Y7NWdrB5xm

Winter Festival Showcase 2019

Congratulations to the performers involved in the Winter Festival Showcase of 2019!

test

It was a night of dancers, musicians, singers and actors in a celebration of the fantastic work that they have been creating in enrichment.

Performances from Music comprised of soloist singers, duets and keyboards and the dance pieces ranged from Modern, Tap, Lyrical and Street. There was also a performance of Cinderella involving 30 students from Drama Production Club. I was proud of everyone who was involved and thought that the level of talent on the stage was phenomenal.

The level of support from peers, friends and family was overwhelming and I’d like to thank those bought a ticket once again. If you didn’t get chance to see this showcase we will be bringing you a performance of Disney’s Aladdin Jnr on July 1st and 2nd! If you are a student at Don Valley Academy and want to be involved remember to sign yourself up to the enrichment we offer or speak to Mrs Threapleton, Miss Bellas or Mrs Woods to find out more.

Summer Showcase 2019- 8th July 2019

Congratulations to the performers involved in the Summer Showcase extravaganza 2019! I was extremely proud to share performances from our talented students in a celebration of the fantastic work that our students have been rehearsing for during enrichment clubs. Performances ranged from modern, lyrical and contemporary dance pieces from Dance Club with Mrs Woods, soloist singers and acoustic guitar solos from enrichment with Miss Bellas and a range of ensemble pieces, solos, duets and trios from various shows taken from Musical Theatre Club with Mrs Threapleton. Performers ranged from Y7-Y10 and the standard pf performance was truly inspiring. If you didn’t get chance to see this showcase we will be bringing you another showcase in December! If you are a student at Don Valley Academy and want to be involved remember to sign yourself up to the enrichment we offer.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass- 20-21st March 2019

A huge congratulations needs to be given to the cast of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Their performances were absolutely fantastic and the hard work and dedication they showed throughout the rehearsal period truly paid off. All members of the cast (who ranged from Year 7 to Year 10) had been rehearsing at least twice a week since November and even gave up Saturdays and holiday days to ensure the performance was to the highest possible standard.

I was an extremely proud director to see the passion and energy that was given by all performers on stage. The students involved were a pleasure to work with and relished every challenge given to them. The wonderful friendships that have been forged across the year groups was also fantastic to see and I was delighted to welcome the year 7 students into the ‘Drama Family’ we have here at Don Valley Academy.

You will see many students returning to the stage for the next production in the Drama Calendar which will be A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Shakespeare Schools Festival 2019 (SSF19) which will take place 14th October 2019 at Cast Theatre, Doncaster.
