Don Valley Academy was recently selected to take part in a project involving Channel 4 filming a careers project organised by head of careers Mr Land and is now available to watch on Channel 4. This was such an amazing opportunity for our learners and to showcase the amazing work done at our Don Valley through the hard work they put in every day.

The initial idea came to us from a student who tragically lost her father in a motorbike accident. As part of our Deeps Projects here in the Academy a planned careers project involving Deep Experience, and Deep Support, it was decided that a legacy for the academy would be created  in the form of the Serenity Garden. This garden will last for many years, and will continue to grow over time.   Students will have the opportunity of having a memorial plaque in the garden for a close immediate family member who they have lost, and will provide a space for reflection and meditation for them.

The space for the Serenity Garden will be the old cobbled area that was left over from the old build as it’s a listed space. This area was in fact the old courtyard that remained from the Farm that once sat in our location before Don Valley High School was built in 1958.
